    Backup and restoring Content manager

     I'm folowing

Make sure that you can log into the WebUx on the new Content Server without any error and that you can create a bulletin, then follow these steps to backup and restore the old Content Server to the new machine:
    1. Backup the current Content Server by following these instructions:
Execute AxisTVBackup.bat at c:\program files\Visix\AxisTV Content Services\Support. It will stop all the AxisTV services and make a backup of your AxisTV database and the Binary Storage folder. Once the backup is done it will create a folder: C:\AxisTVBackup\AxisTVBinaryStorage_Date_Time. Inside that folder you will find a folder named BinaryStorage and a file named AxisTVBackup_Date_Time.bak. These are the two important items you need to keep in a safe place in case of a Hard Drive failure or an OS
    failure of your Content Manager/Server.

    2. You will want to disconnect the old Content Server from the Network or disable all the AxisTV services before beginning the restore.

    3. Restore the Backup on the new Content Server:
Launch the Channel Player Utility at Start | All Programs | Visix | Channel Player Utility.
Click the AxisTV Services tab and then List Services.
Highlight all AxisTV Services and use the Stop Selected AxisTV Services.
Use the Computer Management Console to navigate to Services and Applications | Internet Information Services | Web Sites | Default Web Site.
Highlight the Default Web Site and then right click and select Stop.
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Visix\AxisTV Content Services and rename the BinaryStorage folder to BinaryStorageNEW.
Paste the Binary Storage folder from the AxisTV Backup into the AxisTV Content Services folder.
Launch the SQL Server Management Studio Express from the Start | All Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005 menu.(The setup for this program is found with the setup.exe for the AxisTV Content Services Installer. It is named SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi).
Connect to the Content Server with Windows Authentication.
Expand the tree to Databases | AxisTV.
Right click on AxisTV and select Tasks | Restore | Database.
The To database should already be AxisTV.
Specify the source and location of backup sets to restore to From Device:
Use the Ellipse (...) to add the location of the .bak file that is in the AxisTV Backup folder.
    Check the Restore checkbox.
Go to the Options page and select: Overwrite the existing database.
The Recovery state should remain Leave the database ready to use...
    Click OK.
When the process completes, restart the AxisTV Services and Default Web Site.

    4. Then upgrade the Database: Go to Start | Program Files | Visix | Upgrade Device and uncheck the box for v5.4 then Proceed.
You will encounter a couple of errors because the Computer Name and licenses are different so don't worry. Just reply when you get to this point and I'll send you the fixes.

    OR

    1. Copy the Binary Storage and Dbase from the old server:
Launch the Channel Player Utility at Start | All Programs | Visix | Channel Player Utility.
Click the AxisTV Services tab and then List Services.
Highlight all AxisTV Services and use the Stop Selected AxisTV Services.
Use the Computer Management Console to navigate to Services and Applications | Internet Information Services | Web Sites | Default Web Site.
Highlight the Default Web Site and then right click and select Stop.
Copy the Binary Storage and Dbase from the old server and place them on the new server.

Paste the Binary Storage folder from the old server into the AxisTV Content Services folder.
    Click Start|Programs|Visix|Configure Device
Click on the SQL Server tab
Highlight the existing AxisTV Database and click Detach
Rename the existing .mdf .ldf dbase files at C:\Program Files\Visix\AxisTV Content Services\Database to add .new and paste the one from the old server
In the Configure Device Utility use the section Attach Local AxisTV Database to find the .mdf file (it will automatically find the .ldf file) and click Attach
When the process completes, restart the AxisTV Services and Default Web Site.

    4. Then upgrade the Database: Go to Start | Program Files | Visix | Upgrade Device and uncheck the box for v5.4 then Proceed.
You may encounter a couple of errors because the Computer Name and licenses are different so don't worry. Just reply when you get to this point and I'll send you the fixes.

What are the reasons that caused you to be in a situation to restore your system? Give us a little bit of details of what you are trying to accomplish and we can certainly help you.

Re: Backup and restoring Content manager

    Hi There,

What version of the AxisTV software did you installed? AxisTV 7.x comes bundled with SQL Server 2005 Express and if no SQL Server is detected during the AxisTV software installation then the SQL Server 2005 will install too. But if there is a SQL engine already installed in your machine before AxisTV software installation then SQL Server 2005 Express that comes bundled will never install. Please give us a detail of what lead you to do what you are trying to do. You can also go to http://www.visix.com/priority_support_request.html and submitt a ticket if you are an SMA customer. A tech from visix should be able to help. But if you are not SMA then any help from visix will be fee-based.

    Thank you.
